The Austrian Mint first began minting 100 gold corona coins in 1908 to commemorate the diamond jubilee of the Emperor, Franz Joseph I. Production of gold bullion coins ceased following the outbreak of World War I, and when minting began again in 1921, the decision was made to date the coins 1915 to mark the last full year of the King’s reign.
