Gold and the unobtainable ounce?

With the price of gold going vertical lately it seems the average joe would struggle to obtain that full ounce coin/bar at over $5k. It's harder to move an ounce of gold these days, personally I'm only stacking up to 1/4 ounces as it seems this train isn't slowing down anytime soon and liquidity is king in my portfolio.

You're right....its difficult to find buyers.  I've been trying to sell a gold 1oz maple for over 6 months now. Could have easily took it to the dealer for spot, but wasn't desperate so have been happy to wait. Funny thing is, gold as we all know has been on a relentless march upwards, so my inability to sell has paid off 😅 I hope that's the case for you too.

I think a lot of 'average joes' are waiting for the price to drop before swooping in. Surely a correction is imminent .....surely!?

Yes indeed this seems to be correct.  Liquidity is definitely king. Things have changed from the "it's not worth buying less than an ounce because the premiums are too high" days.

As a newbie I'm a bit confused as to what will happen as the story unfolds.  But I can't see the price dropping with all of the issues the world faces and the political and financial issues in America.  So I'm going to keep stacking 1/4 ounces every month or so instead of adding more to my super.  Lose a bit on tax but gain a bit given I've got a while til retirement and can utilise the asset immediately if needed.

I agree, back when 1 oz was under AUD $2000.00 it was a lot to pay for an ounce of gold, Paying $5700.00 is eye watering. Even a half ounce is a big spend!

Completely agree- it’s crazy how much it has become. Even over the threshold nowadays. 1/4 or fractionals seems to be the way!
